Temporary Graduate Visa

International students who have completed two years of study in Australia are eligible for the Temporary Graduate subclass 485 visa, which is a work visa. It can last anywhere from 18 months to 4 years, depending on your circumstances. However, the primary applicant must be in Australia when they apply for a 485 visa and must have held an eligible student visa during the previous 6 months.

The Temporary Graduate 485 visa has three categories:

  • Graduate Work Stream
  • Post Study Work Stream
  • Second Post Study work Stream

Graduate Work Stream
This visa is for international students who have recently graduated with skills and qualifications that are applicable to specific occupations in Australia. It allows you to temporarily live, study, and work in Australia.

Post Study Work Stream
This visa is for international students who have recently graduated from an Australian institution with a bachelor’s degree or higher. It allows you to temporarily live, work, and study in Australia.

Second Post Study Work Stream
This is for international students who completed their studies in a regional location, are primary applicant for the first 485 visa and proceeded to work and reside in a regional location for the two years after their first 485 visa was issued.

The visa lasts between one and two years, depending on the following factors:

  • The regional location of the educational institution that you graduated from that led to the grant of your first Temporary Graduate visa in the post-study work stream
  • The regional area that you live in as the holder of your first Temporary Graduate visa post-study work stream
